Zachary Hale

I’m an undergraduate at Pitt’s Swanson School of Engineering, studying engineering science on the Nanotechnology, Chemistry, and Bioengineering track. I will also graduate with minors in chemistry, industrial engineering, and bioengineering. Most of my coolest experiences have dealt with medical devices, but I also have knowledge about manufacturing at the micro and nano scale.

Much of my learning has come from the lab. I have been involved with two labs working on two very different things since I started college. This summer and the summer of 2024, I worked on a wearable monitoring device for single-ventricle infants. In 2025, I worked on understanding the growth of carbon nanotubes. This semester I am looking forward to combining small-scale manufacturing with medical devices as I join Dr. Youngjae Chun on a new piezoelectric stent project.

Away from the lab I climb, camp, play some games (Hollow Knight, Factorio, Oxygen Not Included), and work on zany projects with roommates and friends. I also make a respectable bagel, which is documented at some length on the projects page.
